K5 approaching!

Laurel is about to embark on her school career! She starts Kindergarten in two weeks. Wow, I can't believe the summer flew by! Appropriately , my calendar entry for the day says" don't grow up too fast" I think that applys to all of us! The message at church yesterday was about enjoying life and having fun, be a kid (lose your pride!)! Why not? Pride gets in the way of how God designed us to be, in His image. Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes , then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. 29:23 A man's pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor. Enjoy your last days of summer with your kids before the routine sets in again. Be a kid again!

I picked up Laurel and her friend Eliza from school on Friday. THey had so much fun playing with barbies, dress up, watching barbie movies and all things little girls like to do. All went well and we took Eliza home. I went to the gym later on that night and then received THE call. Kerry " are you sitting down?" me " well, I'm in my car. " Kerry,"i think you need to pull over" me "why?" Kerry, " i need to tell you what your daughter did". Me "what?" Kerry, " she cut off all her hair". SILENCE. I sat in silence. I wanted to cry and laugh at the same time and had never experienced that feeling. Have you? I don't think it can possibly happen unless you have kids! I have laughed so hard I cried, but NEVER have I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.

I continued the drive home (received therapy from Kelli and Mom the rest of the drive)and arrived home to attempt to talk to Laurel about her decision to cut her hair. She told Kerry she wanted it short because Eliza's was short. She never could give me a reason. Sunday morning, I discovered that she is going through an " I don't want to be different" phase, as she uncovered the fact that she has an 'outty' belly button and the rest of her family has an 'inny'. She also revealed that now that her hair is short, there is only one little girl left with long hair. Who knew I needed a manual for a nearly 5 year old. Is there a "dummies" book for parents of five year olds? I'm positive I need a manual to prepare me for what is next!

White House Winter Olympics 2010

What an awesome idea to teach the children through actually conducting their own version of the olympics. I think the parents had as much fun as the kids! Here is a description by Chris Carter:

If you weren’t at the White House this morning, you missed something truly special! The White House Winter
Olympics, complete with Parade of Nations, Opening Ceremonies, seven events, medal presentation, and
national anthem was a sight to see. With events such as the Nordic Combined (“luge” down the slide and then
throw a “snowball” in the basket), The Great Zamboni Relay, and Hockey Stick Slalom, it’s hard to know who
had more fun—the children, their teachers, or the parents! Thanks so much to Miss Jessica, who dreamed up
and organized it all, and to all the White House Faculty for providing our children with this wonderful way to
learn about the Olympics.

Laurel's Pajama night

I found this picture on another Mom's blog, I was not able to attend the entire night due to a JL meeting, but I think she did a great job getting everyone in the picture saying their prayers before cookies and milk. Laurel threw a fit because she wanted a moon cookie instead of the star (they found the moon for her too), but other than that she had a great time. Laurel is stuck on the moon because she and Daddy talk about it all the time. So, I was not surprised when My Mom told me how she threw a crying fit because she didn't get one. Mom didn't understand what a big deal the moon is! I love all the sweet things they do at St Marks. I'm happy with our choice of schools for Laurel!

Laurel's PreK3 class has been studying cowboys for 2 weeks. I had no idea that you could spend that much time on Cowboys but they did. The week ended with an opportunity to dress up like a cowgirl.We haven't had many days this year to dress up, (we're usually in a uniform) We missed the Santa day to dress up because we didn't know about it, and we're going to miss pajama day due to our ski trip. So, we'll share this one moment with you !
